Editing Requirements

Editing for Clio is an exciting 8-week volunteer commitment that's an impressive addition to your CV!
The editing process is divided into 8 weekly tasks. More explanations will follow each week, but here's a preview of what will be required of Clio editors:

Tuesday, October 16 through Wednesday, Oct 24: Blind selection process
Week 1 (Oct 28-Nov 3) focuses on:
Skimming the paper and identifying the thesis statement; offering suggestions for strengthening the thesis; running a quick spelling and grammar check; and reporting any block quotations beyond the ONE permitted
Week 2 (Nov 4-10) focuses on:
Identifying the topic sentences of each body paragraph (if they’re clear…) and alerting the author if they’re not easily identifiable; evaluating the topic sentences’ relevance to the paper’s thesis
Week 3 (Nov 11-17) focuses on:
Evaluating each paragraph’s relevance to the paper’s thesis statement; notifying the author of any paragraphs that don’t contribute to the argument
Week 4 (Nov 18-24) focuses on:
Evaluating the evidence used in each paragraph; identifying any logical flaws; informing your author of whether or not you are convinced by their argument
Week 5 (Nov 25-Dec 1) focuses on:
Checking citations for accuracy and correct form; verifying that ideas, quotes, paraphrases, summaries, etc. that require citations are indeed cited
Week 6 (Dec 2-8) focuses on:
Eliminating wordiness (checking for passive voice and verb tense agreement); checking for correct comma, colon, and semi-colon use; thorough proofreading
Week off: Finals
Week 7 (Dec 16-21) focuses on:
Checking for consistency (headings, alignment, spacing, date style, etc.); celebrating your hard work with free pizza on Friday, Dec 21!
