Requirements for Membership
Undergraduate Students:
* 12 units completed in history courses
* minimum 3.1 GPA in history courses
* overall 3.0 GPA or better
* membership is not limited to History majors
Graduate Students:
* 12 units completed towards MA in History
* GPA better than 3.5
* completed ~ 30% of residency requirements
Faculty members above the rank of teaching assistant who teach History classes are eligible to join.
If you meet the Phi Alpha Theta membership requirements and wish to join, please complete the following steps:
* Complete the PAT membership application (below)
* Obtain an unofficial copy of your transcripts that prove you have fulfilled the requirements for membership (be sure to ink out your identification number).
*Provide a check for $45 made out to Phi Alpha Theta. This covers the first year dues for the national organization and a one-year subscription to Phi Alpha Theta’s journal, The Historian.
Turn in these three items to the History Department office (Tahoe Hall 3080), preferably in a large envelope marked “Phi Alpha Theta.”
We will contact you after we have received and reviewed your packet. It is important to provide an e-mail address in your membership application, as this will be the method by which we contact you after your application has been reviewed.
